JAGUAR XJ13 HISTORY

The XJ13 was a “one off” vehicle designed and built during the mid 1960’s with the intent of returning Jaguar to the winner’s circle at Le Mans and to recapture the glory days of the D-type victories in the 1950’s. The all aluminum, full monocoque body designed by Malcom Sayer was powered by a new and unique 5 liter, dual overhead cam, V12 engine which developed some 502HP and 368 LB-ft torque. The engine was placed mid ship and was mated to a ZF 5-speed transaxle. Unfortunately, Jaguar, at the time, did not have the financial or technical resources to mount the all out effort required to bring the car to its maximum potential and make it really competitive. Instead, it was relegated to a very secretive but low priority program, which stretched out for several years. In the end, new design technologies overtook the XJ13 with the mortal blow being a change in the rules, which limited engine displacement to 3.0 liters for vehicles in this class.

The vehicle was put into storage until 1971 when it was brought out for the introduction of the E-type with a V12 engine. Unfortunately, while filming a high-speed segment, one of the wheels collapsed which sent the car cart wheeling into the infield and damaging it severely. Again it was put into storage until 1973 when it was built and fitted with new body panels. A more comprehensive rebuild was done again in 2002 and it now resides in the Jaguar Daimler Heritage Museum in the UK but is brought out from time to time for special “guest appearances”.

Our 1966 Jaguar XJ13 was built in the 1990’s and took over seven years to construct by a craftsman and the Jaguar Race Division with a Senior Executive of The Ford Motor Company. It is titled as a 1966, is left hand drive and street legal with speeds of up to 200mph.
